Learn about THE VOICE.

Student Publication since 2015.

La Voz is a student-run digital newspaper founded in 2015 during the first Health Journalism Workshop offered by VOCES Puerto Rico, in partnership with the Overseas Press Club and the Puerto Rico Journalists Association, under the guidance of professor and journalist Rafael Matos. It was created to promote health journalism among journalism and communication students on the island, bringing together young people from five to seven universities with programs in these disciplines.

Throughout these ten years, La Voz has maintained its mission to inform the community with truthful content, based on scientific evidence and reliable sources, thus strengthening an informed and aware citizenry on public health issues.

With the continued support of the Overseas Press Club, more than 300 students have participated in this educational effort, which combines lectures given by journalists specializing in health with practical workshops.

During the morning sessions, key topics in journalism and health are covered, while in the afternoons students develop their own stories or reports on assigned subjects. The approach includes the appropriate use of scientific evidence, as well as guidelines for conducting interviews, writing, selecting sources, and the ethical use of images and video.

Through the Journalism Workshop, VOCES PR reaffirms its commitment to supporting the training of responsible, ethical journalists committed to the collective well-being.

In this online newspaper, you will find reports written by students over the past ten years. Many of them now work as communications professionals, addressing health issues responsibly and knowledgeably in their respective media outlets.
